Shawn Michaels

Biography

Shawn Michaels is a retired American professional wrestler who trained under José Lothario and debuted as Shawn Michaels in 1984. Born in Chandler, Arizona, and raised largely in San Antonio, Texas, he first broke through in the American Wrestling Association alongside Marty Jannetty as The Midnight Rockers, winning the AWA World Tag Team Championship twice before the pair joined the WWF as The Rockers. After their 1992 split, he became the Heartbreak Kid, a cocky villain who developed into a leading singles performer: a four-time world champion and the promotion's first Grand Slam Champion. He co-founded D-Generation X, headlined WrestleMania five times, won the Royal Rumble twice, and fought the first Hell in a Cell match in 1997. He retired in 2010, returned for one final match in 2018, and later took an executive role overseeing creative for WWE's NXT brand.
