Robert Walden

Biography

Robert Walden is an American actor who got his start in film in 1970 with Bloody Mama, a Roger Corman production, after studying at the City College of New York and joining the Actors Studio. Early on he was often cast as young doctors, in the series The New Doctors and in films such as Blue Sunshine and The Hospital. His breakthrough came as journalist Joe Rossi on Lou Grant, a part he played for the show's entire 1977 to 1982 run and which earned him three Emmy nominations as a supporting actor in a drama series. He went on to star in the Showtime sitcom Brothers from 1984 to 1989 and returned to series television in Happily Divorced, and his films include All the President's Men (1976), Capricorn One (1978), Audrey Rose and Radioland Murders (1994). He has also taught acting at The New School for Drama.

Big break
Robert Walden was discovered by MTM producers James L. Brooks and Allan Burns after he played police officer Ernie Joyce on an episode of Rhoda that aired in January 1977, and they created Lou Grant with him in mind for Joe Rossi.
Early training
While he was a student at City College of New York, Walden first took an interest in acting, and not long after that he became a member of the Actors Studio.
A change of course
Walden teaches acting at The New School for Drama, a division of The New School, a university located in New York City.
