Robert Douglas

Biography

Robert Douglas was an English actor of stage and film who also worked in television as a director and producer. He was born in Fenny Stratford, Buckinghamshire, trained at RADA, and first acted professionally at the Theatre Royal in Bournemouth in 1927. A year later he was in London in Many Waters at the Ambassadors Theatre, and he began making films soon after. Among his movies were The Fountainhead (1949), Ivanhoe (1952) and The Prisoner of Zenda (1952). On television he appeared in Alfred Hitchcock Presents, One Step Beyond and Columbo, and he produced episodes of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour and Court Martial. He also acted on Broadway in the 1950s in plays such as The Ponder Heart and Affair of Honor. His last appearance was in Centennial in 1978.
