Richard Harrison
Biography
Richard Harrison, an American actor who also wrote, directed and produced, was known for European B-movies of the 1960s and 1970s and for exploitation films of the early 1970s. Born in Salt Lake City, he moved to Los Angeles at 17 and studied acting after meeting film workers at a gym. Small stage, television and film parts led to work at Twentieth Century Fox, where he appeared at the start of South Pacific (1958). A three-film deal with American International Pictures took him to Italy, where he starred in sword and sandal pictures such as The Invincible Gladiator and became best known for the western Gunfight at Red Sands (1963). He also directed Two Brothers in Trinity (1972). In the 1980s he acted in low-budget Filipino action films and Hong Kong ninja movies, among them Challenge of the Tiger (1980) and Ninja Terminator (1986), and he played Jack Roth in Lies of the Twins (1991).

A role that slipped away
Harrison turned down the lead in Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars and suggested Clint Eastwood for the part, later joking it was his greatest contribution to cinema.
First role
In 1962, Harrison took his first starring role and appeared in his first Italian film, The Invincible Gladiator, which Alberto De Martino and Antonio Momplet directed.
Early training
Under acting coach Sandy Meisner, Harrison worked at Twentieth Century Fox. Early in South Pacific, he made an appearance alongside Tom Laughlin and Ron Ely.
Behind the camera
Harrison said he turned out several Filipino film screenplays almost overnight, signing them with another name. His script for Fireback, for instance, carries the credit "Timothy Jorge," a pseudonym normally belonging to Don Gordon Bell.
