Jang Lee Hwang
Biography
Jang Lee Hwang, a South Korean actor and martial artist, built his career playing villains in Hong Kong kung fu films. He was born in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, grew up in Korea, and took up Taekwondo at fourteen. In 1965 he instructed South Korean and South Vietnamese troops in martial arts. Acting came in 1974, and Ng See-yuen brought him to Hong Kong, where he first played the villain Silver Fox in Secret Rivals (1976) and returned to the part in Secret Rivals 2 (1977). He gained notice opposite Jackie Chan in Drunken Master (1978) and in Snake in the Eagle's Shadow (1978), and was nicknamed Thunder Leg. His directorial debut was Hitman in the Hand of Buddha (1981). Later credits include Snuff Bottle Connection (1977), Ninja in the Dragon's Den (1982) and No Retreat, No Surrender 2: Raging Thunder (1987). He retired from acting in 1996 and later returned in the television series The Return of Iljimae.
