Plot summary
A blinking object flies in from space and releases a ball of electrical energy that races toward Earth. In the desert of the American Southwest it intercepts a lone driver and takes over his mind, sending him to LabCentral, a research facility, where it enters the mind of the chief, Dr. Hubbell Eliot. There the astrophysicist Dr. Leslie Gaskell and Dr. Arnold Culver have been watching the object and conclude that it travels under intelligent control. Nuclear missiles cannot stop it, and it plunges into the Pacific Ocean off Mexico.
