Ozzy Osbourne

Biography

Ozzy Osbourne was an English singer and songwriter who co-founded Black Sabbath in 1968 and, as its lead vocalist, helped pioneer heavy metal. He was the voice on the group's first eight studio albums, among them Black Sabbath, Paranoid and Master of Reality, until his dismissal in 1979. A solo career followed, with guitarist Randy Rhoads and bassist Bob Daisley joining him on Blizzard of Ozz (1980) and Diary of a Madman (1981); he released thirteen solo albums, the first seven of them multi-platinum in the United States. He returned to Black Sabbath between 1997 and 2005 and again in 2012, singing on 13 (2013), and the band's farewell tour wrapped up in 2017. He also turned up in The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years (1988), won a Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 1994, and entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame both with Black Sabbath and solo. He died in 2025.
