Milos Forman
Biography
Miloš Forman was a Czech and American filmmaker who worked as a director, screenwriter, actor, and professor, and a key figure of the Czechoslovak New Wave. Born in Čáslav, he studied screenwriting in Prague and began with documentaries such as Audition. Black Peter (1964) won the Golden Leopard at Locarno, while Loves of a Blonde (1965) earned awards at Venice and Locarno and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The Firemen's Ball (1967), his first color film, was also nominated for that Oscar. After moving to the United States, he directed Taking Off (1971), which shared the Cannes Grand Prix. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) won five major Academy Awards, including Best Director, and Amadeus (1984) won eight, including Best Picture and Best Director. He also directed Hair (1979), Ragtime (1981), Valmont (1989), The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996), and Man on the Moon (1999), and acted in Keeping the Faith (2000).

Early training
Forman went on to study screenwriting at Prague's Academy of Performing Arts. He also worked as an assistant to Alfréd Radok, who created Laterna Magika.
A role that slipped away
Forman was dismissed from directing Ghost for Paramount after both screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin and the studio disliked his ideas.

Forman was convinced Sean Connery suited the role, so he refused to shoot the film without him and canceled the project just days before shooting was to begin.
