Micheline Presle
Biography
Micheline Presle was a French actress whose career began in 1937 and continued into the 2010s, taking in more than 150 films in France and Hollywood. Born in Paris, she studied acting with Raymond Rouleau and made her debut at 15 in La Fessée. In 1938 she won the Prix Suzanne Bianchetti as French cinema's most promising young actress, and the controversial Devil in the Flesh (1947) brought Hollywood offers. Signed by 20th Century Fox in 1950, she starred opposite John Garfield in Under My Skin and with Tyrone Power in Fritz Lang's American Guerrilla in the Philippines (1950). Later English-language work included Blind Date (1959) and If a Man Answers (1962), followed by The Prize (1963). She earned a César nomination for I Want to Go Home and an honorary César in 2004, and appeared in Venus Beauty Institute (1999). On television she led the French comedy Les Saintes Chéries.

About the name
Zanuck changed Presle's last name to Prell because her name sounded to his American ear like a homonym for pretzel. It became Prelle later, once a soap company brought out Prell shampoo.
Early training
Presle studied acting under Raymond Rouleau, a Belgian actor. She later acted alongside him in Falbalas, also called Paris Frills, in 1945.
