Michael Cronin
Biography
Michael Cronin is a British actor, born in Cranfield in 1942, who earned particular notice on television. He played Geoff Baxter, the tough but fair physical education teacher nicknamed Bullet, on Grange Hill from 1979 to 1986, and later returned to the role in a 2000 episode of The Grimleys. His other screen work includes the 1977 miniseries Jesus of Nazareth, in which he was Eliphaz; Fawlty Towers, as the builder Lurphy; and Merlin (2008), as Geoffrey of Monmouth. He also portrayed Alfred Inglethorp in a 1990 Poirot mystery, The Mysterious Affair at Styles. On film, he appeared in Hopscotch (1980), The Wolfman (2010), and The Raven (2012). From 1986 to 1991, he acted with the English Shakespeare Company and toured in Britain, Europe, Japan, the United States, India, and Australia. He has also written three children's novels, the first of which, Against the Day, was shortlisted for the 1999 Angus Book Award, as well as two screenplays.
