Marcel Iures

Marcel Iureș is a Romanian actor, born in Băilești, and trained at the Theatrical Arts and Cinematography Institute in Bucharest from 1974 to 1978. He made his stage debut at Bucharest's Bulandra Theatre in 1975, then spent 1978 to 1981 at the National Theatre in Cluj. On stage he became known for Shakespearean title roles including Hamlet, Henry IV, Richard III, and Richard II, and he helped found Teatrul ACT, the first independent theater in Romania, in 1995. His film debut came as Franz Liszt in the 1978 film Vis de ianuarie. International work followed after a 1994 UK tour of Richard III, leading to Mission: Impossible (1996) and The Peacemaker (1997). Later films include Hart's War (2002), Layer Cake (2004), Goal! The Dream Begins (2005), and Isolation (2005). He has done voice work and television roles, helped lead the Anonimul International Film Festival as its president and judge, and in 2000 received National Order of Faithful Service, Officer class.
