Luis Oliva

Luis Oliva is a mime, actor and comedian from Puerto Rico who started acting professionally in 1974 in the Puerto Rican theater play Puerto Rico Fua, by the Argentine playwright Carlos Ferrari. A year later he traveled to France with the company Teatro del Sesenta for the play's European performances and stayed on to study with Etienne Decroux, who had taught Marcel Marceau; he also studied dance, appeared in French stage productions, recorded a miming special for French television and eventually acted alongside Marceau himself. He returned to Puerto Rico in 1983 and played the folkloric character Juan Bobo in Los Titingos de Juan Bobo. His role as Angelito in the 1988 WAPA-TV comedy Carmelo y Punto brought him mainstream recognition on the island, and he later appeared on channel 6's Maria Chuzema. He taught mime in Bayamon and owned a theater in Indiana called Theater at the Fort.
