Plot summary
Bibiane Champagne, twenty-five, heads three clothing boutiques in Quebec with her brother Philippe, and the business is failing. She is the daughter of the famous Flo Fabert. A journalist interviews her about her success and about being the daughter of a famous person. She claims business is good, but Philippe confronts her about numerous failures. She has had an abortion, and she struggles with drink and drugs, though her friend Claire supports her. One night she drives, hits Annstein Karson, a fifty-three-year-old Norwegian Canadian fishmonger, and flees. A fish being gutted on a butcher's block narrates the tale from Quebec in the autumn of 1999.
