Linda McCartney

Biography

Linda McCartney was an American photographer, keyboardist and cookbook author. She began as an editorial assistant at Town & Country, which soon sent her to photograph musicians and entertainers, and she became the unofficial house photographer at the Fillmore East. She was the first woman whose picture appeared on a Rolling Stone cover, and her work appeared in galleries and at the Victoria and Albert Museum. After the Beatles split in 1970 she learned keyboards and recorded Ram with Paul McCartney; they formed Wings in 1971, and she played keyboards and sang harmony in the group, which won Grammy Awards. She kept performing with him after Wings ended in 1981 until 1993. She and Paul McCartney received an Oscar nomination for Live and Let Die, wrote vegetarian cookbooks, one of them nominated for a James Beard Award in 1996, and founded Linda McCartney Foods. She appeared in the 2021 documentary The Beatles: Get Back and died in 1998.
