Denny Laine
Biography
Denny Laine was an English musician and songwriter who helped form two major rock groups, the Moody Blues and, later, Wings with Paul McCartney. Raised in Tyseley, Birmingham, he started playing guitar as a boy under the influence of Django Reinhardt and led his own group, Denny Laine and the Diplomats, before joining the Moody Blues in 1964. He sang lead on their hit Go Now and left the band two years later. In 1971 he teamed up with Paul and Linda McCartney in Wings, remaining for the group's entire ten-year existence; he played guitar, bass and keyboards, handled vocals, and co-wrote songs such as Mull of Kintyre. Alongside that he made solo records, including Ahh...Laine! and Japanese Tears, and later wrote the musical Arctic Song. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted him in 2018 as a member of the Moody Blues. He died in 2023.
