Biography

Leigh Lawson is an English actor, director and writer who trained at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and later at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and who has worked on screen since the early 1970s. He was born in Atherstone, Warwickshire. His film roles include Bernardo in Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972) and Alec d'Urberville in Tess (1979), and he took the lead as Alan Lomax in the television drama Travelling Man from 1984 to 1985, with guest parts in series such as The Duchess of Duke Street, Disraeli and Silent Witness. On stage he has appeared with the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company, and he has directed for the West End and Broadway, co-writing and directing the musical If Love Were All in 1999. His theatrical memoir The Dream: An Actor's Story was published in 2009.
