Jill Melford
Biography
Jill Melford was an English actress, born in Hendon in 1931, who started out as a dancer and trained at the Ballet Arts School in New York before making her theater debut there in 1949 in a production of Oklahoma!. Her father was the actor Jack Melford. She moved into London stage work with The Seven Year Itch in 1953, and her first British television appearance came in 1952 in The Three Hostages. She made her film debut in Will Any Gentleman... in 1953, played Miss Nardis in the crime drama Murder by Proxy (1954), and starred with Norman Wisdom in A Stitch in Time (1963). Her screen credits also included The Servant (1963), Hot Enough for June (1964), Bunny Lake Is Missing (1965), The Vengeance of She (1968) and Edge of Sanity (1989). On television she had a recurring role as Toni Ross in Crossroads and appeared in Taggart in 1993. She died in 2018.
