Plot summary
In late 1880s England, Dr. Henry Jekyll experiments with the human psyche. As a boy he was whipped by his father after watching him with a prostitute in a barn. He accidentally swallows a blend of ether and cocaine intended as an anesthetic, and becomes the monstrous Jack Hyde, who kills a prostitute resembling one he met as a child. Hyde uses the mixture to set prostitutes and their clients against one another, and the deaths bring a Scotland Yard detective into the case. Elisabeth, Jekyll's wife, spends her days on charitable work among the district's fallen women.
