Big break
Dewan credits working with Janet Jackson for helping her career. She first showed up in Jackson's "Doesn't Really Matter" video in 2000, then in "All for You" and the All for You Tour in 2001, which gave her what she needed to co-star in Step Up.
Behind the camera
Dewan co-founded 33andOut Productions with friends including Channing Tatum. The company's first production was the documentary Earth Made of Glass, about Rwandan President Paul Kagame and genocide survivor Jean-Pierre Sagahutu, which premiered at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival.
Getting ready for a role
Dewan took on the role of Sadie Smith and also served as an executive producer for the Lifetime movie Let's Get Physical, which came out in 2022. The character she plays draws loosely on Zumba instructor Alexis Wright.
