Plot summary
Brooke Tippit is co-captain of a Texas high school cheerleading squad whose five members, known as the Fab Five, break school rules. They drink, bully other students and post suggestive pictures online, and teachers, parents and administrators let them get away with it, even after earlier coaches quit or were dismissed. Brooke's mother Lorene is the principal. Emma Carr arrives as the new cheerleading coach and tries to hold the squad to the rules, which the girls resist. When Carr names Meagan Harper co-captain alongside Brooke, Brooke is furious, and Carr's discipline runs into an administration that protects the girls.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Michaela Ward was hired in 2005 to teach geography and coach cheerleading at McKinney North High School, where she found five cheerleaders nicknamed the "Fab Five" breaking rules, skipping class and posting Myspace photos of themselves drinking and visiting an adult store.
- Unable to get school administrators to punish the Fab Five, Ward resigned in October 2006, took their unruly behavior and the school's handling of it to the media, and Lifetime then made the film from her story.
- After the story broke, Michaela Ward faced unemployment and was ostracized, especially over her lawsuits, and in 2008 she filed an unsuccessful lawsuit to get her job back.
- The real-life events were grimmer than the television movie: the McKinney North principal and vice-principal lost their jobs, the "Fab Five" girls became victims of stalkers, and discipline at the school became stricter than before.
