Jean Vander Pyl

Biography

Jean Vander Pyl was an American voice actress, born in Philadelphia and best known for voicing Wilma Flintstone in Hanna-Barbera's The Flintstones. She was already working in radio by 1939 and appeared in early 1950s programs such as The Halls of Ivy and Father Knows Best, where she played Margaret Anderson. Her television acting included Leave It to Beaver, The Donna Reed Show, and Petticoat Junction, and she later had a cameo as Mrs. Feldspar in the live-action film The Flintstones (1994). Her first Hanna-Barbera voice role came in 1958 on The Huckleberry Hound Show, and she went on to supply many characters for the studio, including Rosie the robot maid on The Jetsons in 1962 and again in 1985, and roles on Top Cat. She returned to Wilma for spinoffs and films such as The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones, Hollyrock-a-Bye Baby, and A Flintstones Christmas Carol. Her final roles came between 1995 and 1997. She died in 1999.
