Henry Corden
Biography
Henry Corden was a Canadian-born American actor who became the voice of Fred Flintstone after Alan Reed died in 1977. Born in Montreal, he moved to the Bronx as a child and reached Hollywood in the 1940s. He began on Los Angeles stages, including a 1947 production of The Message, and his film work included The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947), The Black Castle (1952) and Abbott and Costello in the Foreign Legion (1950), as well as The System (1952). An obituary noted that his deep voice and dark hair often led to heavies on film and television, and he appeared in many series, among them Hogan's Heroes, Dragnet, Perry Mason, McHale's Navy, Gunsmoke and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He supplied Fred Flintstone's singing voice before taking the role full time in 1977 on Fred Flintstone and Friends, and he voiced characters for Hanna-Barbera shows such as The Jetsons, Jonny Quest and The Hillbilly Bears.
