Jan Murray

Jan Murray was an American comedian who worked as an actor and a television host, breaking in on the vaudeville stage at 18 and building a following in the 1930s at the Catskills resorts known as the Borscht Belt. The Bronx native headlined Las Vegas stages in the 1940s and early 1950s, including at the Flamingo Hotel in its first year. From the late 1940s he moved into television, hosting game shows such as Go Lucky, Blind Date, Treasure Hunt, which he created, and Chain Letter, and sitting on the Hollywood Squares panel from 1966 to 1980. His films included Who Killed Teddy Bear? (1965), The Busy Body (1967) and Which Way to the Front? (1970), and he appeared in such series as The Lucy Show and Mannix. In 1960 the Hollywood Walk of Fame added a star for him, and in 1997 Palm Springs dedicated a Golden Palm Star to him. He retired at 83.
