Jack White
Biography
Jack White is an American musician who co-founded the rock duo the White Stripes and served as its guitarist and lead vocalist. Born in Detroit, he started out as a drummer and guitarist in underground Detroit bands before forming the White Stripes in 1997. The group broke through internationally with White Blood Cells (2001) and reached wider success with Elephant (2003), whose single Seven Nation Army won a Grammy for Best Rock Song. He also founded the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather, and after the White Stripes split in 2011 he found success as a solo artist. His debut album Blunderbuss (2012) drew strong reviews, while Lazaretto (2014) set a record for first-week vinyl sales. He has also appeared in films including Cold Mountain (2003), Coffee and Cigarettes (2003) and It Might Get Loud (2008), and has won twelve Grammy Awards. In 2025 the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted him with the White Stripes.

A first
Jack White appeared in the 2009 film It Might Get Loud, and while it was being shot that August he wrote and recorded "Fly Farm Blues", his first solo single, in 10 minutes.
Behind the camera
White co-founded Third Man Records with Ben Swank in 2001, but only bought a space for the label after moving to Nashville in 2009.
