Isela Vega
Biography
Isela Vega, born in Hermosillo, Sonora, in 1939, was a Mexican actress and filmmaker who also sang and wrote songs, and she died in 2021. She began acting in 1960, after starting out in modeling, and she released an album of her singing in 1969. Her most widely recognized role came in Sam Peckinpah's 1974 movie Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, as Elita; the film includes a track she wrote, Bennie's Song. Vega earned four Ariel Awards for acting, once for Best Actress and three times for Best Supporting Actress, and she received the Golden Ariel in 2017. In the 1980s came her first work behind the camera, writing, producing and directing several films. For Gringo mojado (1986) she performed El Siete Mares and Amanecí en tus brazos. She appeared in about 150 movies.
