Irene Hervey
Biography
Irene Hervey was an American actress who worked in film, stage, and television for five decades. Born in the Venice area of Los Angeles, she trained with Emma Dunn, then began making movies after a screen test led Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to sign her in 1933. Her debut was The Stranger's Return (1933) with Lionel Barrymore, followed by The Count of Monte Cristo (1934). At Universal Pictures she appeared in Destry Rides Again (1939), The House of Fear (1939), plus the musical The Boys from Syracuse (1940). Later films included Night Monster (1942), Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid (1948), and the noir A Cry in the Night (1956). From the mid-1950s she took many television guest roles, among them My Three Sons, Perry Mason, and Honey West, and My Three Sons brought her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. She later appeared in Cactus Flower (1969) and Play Misty for Me (1971). She was given a place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
