Plot summary
Stanley Ford draws Bash Brannigan, a syndicated strip about a daring secret agent, and he holds that Brannigan should never do anything Stanley has not done himself. So he stages each adventure around Manhattan while his valet, Charles, shoots photographs to draw from. Then Stanley drinks too much at a friend's bachelor party and wakes up married to the young Italian woman who had jumped from the cake. He regrets it immediately, and Charles quits rather than serve a married man. Stanley's lawyer, Harold Lampson, tells him a divorce requires legal justification, and his wife, who speaks no English, settles in with a small dog, Italian cooking and a television she says helps her learn the language.
