Deborah Winters
Biography
Deborah Winters is an American actress who began working in film and television at age five. Born in Los Angeles in 1953, she moved to New York, attended the Professional Children's School, and trained at the Stella Adler Studio. After returning to Los Angeles in 1968, she studied under Lee Strasberg. Her first major screen role came in Me, Natalie (1969), followed by a co-starring part opposite Michael Douglas in Hail, Hero! Her work in the CBS Playhouse production of The People Next Door led to the film remake (1970), which drew positive reviews, with Roger Ebert writing that what first seemed mannered became essential to her characterization. Jack Lemmon cast her opposite Walter Matthau in Kotch (1971), his only directing project, and Time praised her comic timing. Later credits include Blue Sunshine (1977), The Outing (1987), Lottery!, and the miniseries The Winds of War.
