Biography

An American model and actress, Barbara Lawrence began as a child photographer's model before her film debut as a night-club patron in Billy Rose's Diamond Horseshoe (1945). Born in Carnegie, Oklahoma, she drew notice a year later as the flapper Marybelle in Margie and appeared with Tyrone Power in Captain from Castile (1947). Talent scouts noticed her while she was a student at UCLA, leading to roles in several 20th Century-Fox films, among them A Letter to Three Wives (1949), The Street with No Name (1948), and Thieves' Highway (1949). After moving to MGM, she acted with Gig Young in Arena (1953) and with Greer Garson in Her Twelve Men, then played Gertie Cummings in Oklahoma! (1955) and starred in Man with the Gun (1955) and Kronos (1957). She guest-starred on Cheyenne, made four appearances on Perry Mason, and appeared on Cimarron City and Bonanza. In 1960 a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was dedicated to her.
