Plot summary

A nightclub holdup leaves a man dead, a bank robbery leaves a guard dead, and Robert Danker, arrested for the crimes, insists he was framed and is cleared by laboratory tests in Washington. A man calling himself John Smith posts his bail, and Danker is later found stabbed. A squad of FBI agents under inspector George A. Briggs meets with the city's police chief and commissioner, and at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Briggs sends agent Gene Cordell into Center City under the name George Manly. Cordell rents a room at the same hotel where Danker lived. He picks a fight with a boxer at the local gym, and the owner, Alec Stiles, pays him when he lasts.
