Biography

Alex Gibney is an American documentary director and producer, described by Esquire in 2010 as becoming the most important documentarian of his time. Born in New York City, he studied at Yale University and the UCLA Film School. He worked as series producer, under Martin Scorsese, of the PBS series The Blues (2003), and wrote and produced The Pacific Century (1992), which won a News & Documentary Emmy. His Taxi to the Dark Side (2007) won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, and Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room was nominated in the same category. He also directed Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief (2015), We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks (2013) and The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley (2019), and is president of Jigsaw Productions.
