Alex Cord
Biography
Alex Cord, born Alexander Viespi Jr. in Floral Park, New York, was an American actor best known for playing Michael Coldsmith Briggs III, also called Archangel, in the television series Airwolf (1984). He trained at New York University and the American Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford, Connecticut. In the 1960s and 1970s he was a leading man on screen, often in crime dramas, action films, and westerns. Early credits included The Chapman Report (1962) and a 1966 remake of Stagecoach, in which he played the Ringo Kid. He co-starred in The Brotherhood (1968) with Kirk Douglas. He appeared in the 1973 television pilot Genesis II as Dylan Hunt, created by Gene Roddenberry. Other work included Mission: Impossible, Police Story, and Walker, Texas Ranger. He was nominated for Best Actor by the London Critics Circle and for a 1966 Golden Laurel for New Faces, and won a Golden Boot Award in 2001. He died in 2021.

Getting ready for a role
In 1966, Cord took the part of the Ringo Kid in a Stagecoach remake. The press promoted him as a former football player, since John Wayne, a minor college football player, had originated the role in John Ford's 1939 version.
