Plot summary
Travelers on the road in eastern Victoria take rooms at an inn kept by Caroline Straulle and her husband Lazar, and they are not seen afterwards. In 1896 the American bounty hunter Cal Kincaid comes to the district to look into a series of murders. The story was first written as a one-hour script for a planned television series called Fright. The Australian Film Development Corporation put $280,000 into it. Shooting began in November 1973, took nine weeks, and used the Mangrove Mountain region of the New South Wales Central Coast and Artransa Studios in Sydney. At the time, no Australian film had cost more to make. It was released late in 1975.
