Plot summary
Ruth performs in the Atlanta hip-hop duo 404 with her lifelong friend Breana, and their manager Sy controls the act. Ruth tells them she wants to leave, and Sy claims she owes him thousands that she has to repay first. Late one night Naomi, the mother of Ruth's boyfriend Marlon, calls her to a hospital, where Marlon and his father Eli have been brought after being shot. A small house in Tennessee is all the family has left, so Ruth travels there with Naomi. In town she looks for work and joins a grape harvesting crew at a vineyard that Boaz has recently inherited, and the pickers take her out for drinks and karaoke, where her singing draws attention.
