Plot summary
The miller wants his daughter Evalina to marry the King, so he claims she can spin straw into gold. The King puts her to the test. A demonic imp, Rumpelstiltskin, appears and does the spinning for her. The King is not content with the first result and demands more gold. Rumpelstiltskin offers to help again, but asks for Evalina's firstborn child in return. She agrees to the bargain.
