Plot summary
An elderly woman arrives in a small Saskatchewan town with a shy boy named Rufus. She says she can go no further, then walks in front of a tractor trailer. Sheriff Hugh Wade and his wife Jennifer take Rufus in as a house guest while Wade tries to learn who the two of them are and why they came. Rufus is lonely and wants a fresh start, and he has a taste for blood that he keeps hidden, fearing it will be found out. Two local teenagers, Tracy McCay and Clay Huxley, befriend him, and a stranger named Aaron Van Dusen arrives in town looking for him.
