Plot summary
Tato and Beto, half-brothers from Tachatlán, a farming village in Jalisco's Cihuatlán Valley, work the banana plantations. Beto, the older, keeps goal in the local matches and dreams of playing professionally; Tato, the striker, would rather sing, though he has no ear for it, and he has his eye on Maya, a television spokes-model. Their household is crowded, with their mother and stepfather, their sister Nadia, and Toña, Beto's wife, and children, and money is short. Batuta, a soccer scout, watches them play. His roster is full, so he can take only one brother to Mexico City, and a penalty shot settles which of them goes.
