Plot summary
Rodrigo Rojas, 19, lives in Santiago and is serving his military term. The imminent war with Argentina over the Picton, Nueva and Lennox Islands sends him to Punta Arenas. Sergeant Osvaldo Ferrer puts him on the Patagonian plains with orders to hold the border. Rojas and his group, three other conscripts and a career soldier, get lost there. They run into an Argentinean group that is just as lost. Neither side can say which country's soil it stands on, and a mistake could be read as an invasion.
