Plot summary
Wei Xiaobao has a sister named Wei Chunhua, a prostitute. He saves Chen Jinnan, who leads the Tiandihui, a group that fights Qing rule, and Chen takes him as an apprentice. The Tiandihui then sends Wei to the imperial palace to take the Sutra of Forty-two Chapters. There he passes himself off as a eunuch, spars with the young Kangxi Emperor and becomes a trusted aide. He also makes an enemy of the Empress Dowager. The emperor has Wei meet his bodyguard Duolong and tells the two of them to help him deal with Oboi, the overbearing regent.
