Plot summary
In the jungle of South Africa, a multinational military unit ambushes a convoy and carries off scientists who worked on a volatile compound taken from a meteorite. One of the raiders is a man from Hong Kong. He later wakes in a tribal village on the veldt, hurt, with no memory of anything before, and when the villagers ask his name he keeps asking the same question back, so they call him Who Am I. He spends weeks healing and learning the tribe's ways. When he sees rally cars in the distance, he says goodbye to the village and walks out. He saves the brother of Yuki, a Japanese rally co-driver, from a snake bite and offers to help the pair finish their race. In Johannesburg, a journalist named Christine Stark arrives to interview him.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Who Am I? (1998)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- In the film's rally chase, Jackie Chan, Yuki and Christine flee their captors, and the team used numerous Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IVs because stunts like the spin parking manoeuvre, market chase and flipping the car onto its side and roof were so physically harsh.
- The Beurstraverse in Rotterdam was portrayed as being in Johannesburg, and the Willemswerf building stood in for the villains' headquarters, with Jackie Chan escaping by sliding down its side to the ground.
SPOILER
The U.S. DVD release is cut by 9 minutes, moving the helicopter double-cross to immediately after takeoff, which takes away the "big reveal" of what happened to Jackie Chan and his men.- The U.S. release is the only cut that contains Jackie Chan's original spoken English during his time with the African tribe; the uncut Hong Kong releases dubbed him into Cantonese.
