Plot summary
It is the summer of 1980, and Joe Koerner, Eugene 'Tiger' Pierce Jr. and Chris Corwin are twelve years old and at summer baseball camp. Joe's parents, Martha and John Koerner, have lied to him about a trip they are taking, so the three boys slip away from camp to follow them. On the road they piece together clues, stay out of their parents' sight, dodge the police and decide to trust a stranger. Joe wants to know what the trip is really about, and it is the boys' last summer before junior high. The three best friends also have to keep the trip from wrecking their friendship.
