Plot summary
Josh Parker and Tiffany Henderson try to keep a long-distance relationship going, he at the University of Ithaca and she at the University of Austin. Calls often go unanswered, so Josh records videotaped messages and mails them. His roommate Rubin is asked to post the latest. E.L., his best friend, tells him to forget Tiffany and pay attention to Beth Wagner. Josh needs a B+ on the Ancient Philosophy midterm to pass. At a party where E.L. auctions off female students, Beth persuades Josh to outbid Jacob, the teaching assistant obsessed with her, and they record themselves in his room on his camcorder. The next morning his friends play the camcorder and find only the messages for Tiffany, so Josh believes Rubin posted the wrong tape, and he, E.L., Rubin and Kyle drive toward Austin in Kyle's father's car.
