Plot summary
During rush hour, a bombing in the Los Angeles subway tunnels leaves terrified passengers trapped underground. A second bomb is ticking, and the person who planted the first one is down there with the group, somewhere in the tunnels. With time running short, the passengers are fighting for their lives and looking for a way back to the surface before the next explosion.

- Screenwriting student Tara Stone pitched a World War II thriller in which people trapped in a London wine cellar suspect a Nazi spy among them, but on the advice of professors Chris Riley and Rob Kirbyson the script was rewritten as a present-day Los Angeles subway story to cut costs.
- Most of Red Line was shot on a 1,200-square-foot soundstage at John Paul the Great Catholic University in Scripps Ranch, San Diego, where about 60-70% of the school's 120 students worked on the film and students and faculty supplied all the labor building the bombed-out subway car and tunnel set.
