Plot summary
Anyone who watched Raymond Lewis play called him a sure bet for NBA stardom. He came from Watts, in South Central Los Angeles, and his scoring in high school and college broke records. In 1973 the Philadelphia 76ers chose him in the first round of the NBA draft while he was still a college sophomore. A contract dispute with the 76ers and a battle on the court with Doug Collins, the team's other first-round pick, stalled his professional career, and talk spread that the league had blackballed him. Lewis spent the next decade back home in Los Angeles, dominating playground and gym games while he kept chasing a place in the NBA.
