Plot summary
Julie Taylor arrives at a high school to teach senior math for the final weeks of the term, stepping into the classroom of a colleague and friend whose death is being treated as a suspected suicide. The year has been hard on her, and the job is a chance to begin again for herself and her teenage daughter Miya, who enrolls as a student at the same school. Julie expects Miya to have a rough time as both the new girl and the teacher's daughter. What she does not expect is that Miya will quickly become close with Amy Turner, known around the school as the resident mean girl.
