Plot summary
Amber works at a butchery in a small town and dreams of leaving behind her alcoholic, widowed mother. After she learns she was adopted, she decides to move to Chicago, where an apartment she wants is held for her only if she delivers a deposit by noon the next day. Her best friend Susie joins the trip, along with Susie's boyfriend Peter, Fiona, Ray, and Eric, a shy boy who is interested in Amber and supplies the truck. On the road the truck breaks down, and Bernard, a truck driver also headed for Chicago, offers the group a lift in his semi, with Eric riding up front in the cabin.
