Plot summary
Cee, a teenager, travels with her father Damon to a remote forest moon, where the air is full of spores that make it poisonous to breathe. The two are prospectors, hunting gems that living organisms produce, and they hold a contract to harvest a large deposit at a site named the queen's lair. On the way there, two rival prospectors, Ezra and a silent partner, stop Damon and hold a gun on him, meaning to rob him. Damon asks them instead to join him and take the whole dig site away from the mercenaries he had agreed to help. Cee is hiding close by.

- To create the poisonous dust particles seen floating in the forest scenes, co-director Zeek Earl filmed dust being thrown through the air in the basement of his own home and composited the footage into the finished film.
- Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell took seven months to build the film's ships, costumes and weapons in a former ship-building warehouse in Fremont, Seattle, hiring industrial designers, carpenters, mechanics and cosplayers, many of whom had never worked on a movie.
- Before the feature, Earl and Caldwell first produced Prospect as a short film with a $21,000 budget they raised through Kickstarter; it premiered at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival and became a hit on Vimeo.
