Plot summary

Elizabeth Bennet, twenty-six, studies at a Utah college and lives on Longbourne Avenue with four roommates. She has no interest in dating before she graduates and wants to become a writer. At the bookstore where she works she meets Will Darcy, an Englishman who calls her arrogant. Jane, one of the roommates, talks Elizabeth into coming along to a party given by the rich Charles Bingley, where Jane and Bingley are drawn to each other. Elizabeth dodges Collins, who admires her, and runs into Jack, a handsome playboy who proposes to her over a game of pool; she turns him down. A letter from a publisher asks Elizabeth to a meeting. Caroline Bingley, meanwhile, is after Darcy, who orders Jack out of the party.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Producer Jason Faller picked Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice as source material for a film set in Provo, Utah, because he saw similarities between Regency-era England and Latter-day Saint culture: both expected young marriage and pre-marital chastity.
  • Andrew Black's short film The Snell Show won the Best Short award at the Slamdance Film Festival, and that prize helped him line up investors for Pride & Prejudice, his first feature-length project.
