Plot summary
Kimberly Joyce is a sophomore at Roxbury Academy, an elite prep school in Beverly Hills, where she wins the part of Anne Frank in the school play. She and her friend Brittany take Randa Azzouni, a new student from the Middle East, under their wing. Her father, Hank, takes almost no interest in her, and her stepmother Kathy scolds her for coarse language. The English and drama teacher, Percy Anderson, sends Kimberly and Randa to detention and makes Kimberly write an essay about her behavior. After he humiliates Brittany during an acting exercise, Kimberly works out a plan with the two girls to accuse him of sexual harassment. The charge brings in Emily Klein, a local reporter first sent to cover the school, and worries Hank, who fears for his business.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Pretty Persuasion (2005)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Screenwriter Skander Halim developed the story from a news article he had read about an eighth-grade girl in his hometown of Ottawa, Ontario, who accused her teacher of molesting her.
- The film deliberately features no popular music songs, and the wardrobe and props carry no contemporary branding either, so nothing on screen ties the story to a particular year.
