Plot summary
Wit is an anesthesiologist whose marriage to Mike has grown strained; he pays more attention to his phone than to her. She joins Mike and his brother Sean, a former marine, on a hunting trip in a secluded forest preserve. Mike hopes the trip will help Sean with his PTSD, and Wit hopes it will rekindle her marriage. The three ignore signs saying the preserve is closed and continue to their destination. They wake the next morning to find that someone has taken all of their belongings and marked each of their foreheads with a black X. With no food, water or gear, they begin to turn on each other while unseen hunters close in.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Preservation (2014)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Writer-director Christopher Denham based Preservation partly on a hunting and camping trip he took in Texas with friends, where they heard odd things in the woods, such as a bike chain spinning, and knew they were being watched without knowing by whom.
- With a limited budget and a fast schedule, only three or four takes were allowed per shot, a challenge director Christopher Denham called a blessing in disguise because it "put the actors in a manic mindset that translates on screen."
- Preservation was shot on the Red Epic with anamorphic lenses, and Denham and cinematographer Nicola Marsh based the look on the depth of field and empty frame space of Halloween and Southern Comfort to create a feeling of isolation.
